WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.
The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.
You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.
The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. upgrade item can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using a The button will show the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.
Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from a different set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of options. They can choose to use Flightstones which are a general upgrade currency available to everyone players, or crests that are more specialized and are consumed during upgrades at specific item levels. upgrade item are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.
Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another important change is that crests only have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
